Compass Gets Upstate Curious

Upstate Curious, the brokerage you follow on Instagram even though you will never be able to afford a house, has been poached by Compass from Keller Williams. As founder Megan Brenn-White announced on Monday (on Instagram of course), the 15-person team behind the sale of that geodesic dome in Accord and every single house that was recently painted black within 50 miles of the Hudson River will now be officially known as the “Upstate Curious Team at Compass.”

The brokerage, which covers 11 counties throughout the Hudson Valley and Catskills, has closed $260 million in sales since it was founded in 2019, according to the Real Deal. Compass has been through a rocky few years, and Brenn-White told the Real Deal that she had reached out to explore joining when Compass was considering a franchise model. “They’re not ready to franchise yet, but they were open to going into a new market,” she said. The move was apparently also about Brenn-White’s reaction to Compass’s eight principles. In her announcement, she wrote that she felt an “actual chill” when she read the industry giant’s guiding philosophies, which include “dream big” and “be solutions-driven.”
